It should be a priority

I have been leading teams for eight years. It's always been parallel - in the sense that I've been chasing my own professional outcomes as part of the team while leading the team itself. But it's also never been in-between - in the sense that I've always prioritized team cohesion as a goal.

My first team was 5 people, over time it has grown to 12, then in the Business Catalogue I have tried to keep the team size around 10 people. Both of these teams were built by me because in both places I didn't have a ready-made team to take over, and new people were being sent to me and I had to make a working community of people out of them. Here are some lessons I learned over time. They may have been very accessible in a textbook, but I reached them the hard way.

Get to know the man and his dreams.

A very important element in any job is motivation. Everyone needs motivation and everyone is motivated by different things. Over the years, I have been able to motivate everyone individually, and everyone in general, by learning more about them, getting to know their personal lives - the difficulties and joys, and shortening the distance quickly. Get to know a person's interests and dreams and always strive to show them that Thanks to our work together, everyone's dreams are one idea closer. What could be more motivating than an approaching dream?

Give them security.

Even the most courageous person needs security, and this is especially true in the unstable socio-economic environment of our latitudes these days. This is why I have always strived to provide basic peace of mind to my teams. It's motivating to link remuneration to targets achieved. However, security requires that you guarantee a steady income on the one hand and on the other, keep everyone confident in the team's strength and ability to achieve the set goal.

Get the best out of everyone.

I often set high goals

It is important to strive to spot the undiscovered potential. I've seen grains of success in salespeople who didn't have faith in themselves. At that point, I set a high goal, put every skill and effort into helping him reach it, but make him feel that he has done it on his own. Then it becomes easy :)) It's great to see someone achieve something that seemed unattainable! After that his belief in himself grew, he became confident and gave encouragement to his colleagues. And when the more experienced ones give encouragement and help the newer ones with everything, there is a well-functioning team!

Leave space for creativity.

There is room for creativity in commercial work too! What I mean by that is that each of our salespeople undergoes basic training and receives a set of specific techniques that are vital to their work. Often it seems that these guidelines are all that is needed, but that is not the case. Henceforth, each person chooses how to present the service to his client, according to the kind of person he is, what he is interested in, what would be useful to him. That's why I give the salespeople in the teams that I manage the right to choose how to sell, to build successful models, and to understand that those models are the work of their personal sense of the matter.

Be prepared to apologize if you make a mistake.

One of the most difficult skills in managing teams for me personally is to recognize the line between a person's constructive and destructive self-belief. I strive to give freedom of expression to those who are willing, to give each salesperson the space to explore their capabilities, to show them that they are capable and to let them blossom. However, it happens that he flies into the clouds and then I have to land him again. But how to do that without demotivating him? The line is very thin I have often had to jump it and hurt people. Always, always, always when I realize I'm wrong, I'm ready to ask for forgiveness.

We like to go out together after work

Provide variety and rest.

Commercial work is often boring. I say this with the best feelings for the profession, but also the understanding that it is our responsibility to bring variety to our daily lives and that of the team. Boredom kills! It kills enthusiasm, motivation, creativity. Team building is a must, not only to get the team together. Team fun gives the team a chance to build on their knowledge of human nature as a whole. And that's key in sales, after all, we're selling to people. We have fun in a variety of ways: from a leisurely coffee when the office work is done early, to hikes in the mountains, going to the theatre together, getting manicures together, and the men's side- boxing, table tennis and much more. Recently, we have also discovered the pleasure of helping together. We support "Hope for the little ones"!

Now it's your turn: I very much hope you find my experience useful and I look forward to hearing your experience with bated breath!

Here are some lessons I learned over time.
